Test Indications

Anti-TPO is used to investigate the presence of autoimmune thyroiditis (e.g. Hashimotos' thyroiditis and Grave's Disease). The measurement of thyroid antibodies in subjects with subclinical hypothyroidism helps to define the risk of developing overt hypothyroidism

Limitations/Interferences

No known common methodological interferences.

Pleased note that the measured anti‑TPO value of a patient’s sample can vary depending on the assay used. Due to methodological differences, such as the different epitopes targeted by the detection antibodies used in the Elecsys Anti‑TPO II assay and other assays, numeric anti‑TPO test results determined on patient samples by different assays cannot be directly compared with one another and could be the cause of erroneous medical interpretations.
