Specimen Collection

These products can only be requested by a Conultant Haematologist. For granulocytes to be issued, a valid historic Group and Save must be on record and a current valid group must exist. Please note that these are prepared by NHS Blood and Transplant on demand, can only be produced on weekdays, and have a 24 hour lead time (i.e. available only on Tuesday-Saturday).

Turnaround time

Dependent on urgency. Please discuss with laboratory.

Test indications

If transfusion of granulocytes are required to replenish those of a patient with severe neutropaenia. Please refer to a Consultant Haematologist for guidance.
