Specimen Collection

For FFP, Octaplas or cryoprecipitate to be issued, a valid historic Group and Save must be on record. A current group is not necessary. Please note that as these are frozen products, at least 30 minutes’ notice is required for them to be provided on time.

Turnaround time

Dependent on urgency. Please discuss with laboratory.

Test indications

If transfusion of FFP, Octaplas or cryoprecipitate is required to replenish coagulation factors for when the patient is actively bleeding or is due for a surgical procedure which might induce bleeding. Please refer to Pathology policies and guidelines in the document library of the Trust’s intranet for guidance.
