| Serum (brown top tube) or LiHep Plasma (Orange top tube) Clinician must give prior notice of calcitonin requests to the lab. The specimen must be received by the lab, on ice, within 30 minutes of venepuncture. Delay and haemolysis both invalidate this test. Please retain the patient until the lab staff confirm the sample is valid. Upon arrival in the laboratory the sample is centrifuged at 4oC and stored frozen prior to referral. | |
