Paediatric Acute Hepatitis

Dear Colleagues,

Following an increase in cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children, for patients <16 years old, we have updated our critical limit for urgent communication for ALT to >500U/L in primary and secondary care (effective 25/04/2022).

Our critical communication cut off for AST remains unchanged at >525U/L (adults and paediatrics).

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Dr Mark Lum (Consultant Chemical Pathologist) and Jamie West (Biochemistry Manager)
