Test Indications

Swabs of acute wounds will be routinely cultured for primary pathogens i.e. Staph aureus, βhaemolytic streptococci. Where other potential pathogens are isolated in predominant or pure culture they will be reported. Growth of bacteria alone does not indicate the presence of infection, unless other factors such as inflammation, pus, erythema or fever are exhibited.
