Specimen Collection

3.4ml EDTA (Red lid). For HIV monitoring only, not for diagnosis. Samples must not be refrigerated and must be <24 hours old due to white cell degradation.

 

Samples arriving on Friday or on a weekday that preceeds a Bank Holiday must arrive in the laboratory before 12pm or it will NOT be processed

Test indications

Monitoring CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocyte count in patients with known HIV infection, to determine efficacy of antiretroviral medication.

Haemolysis, clotted samples
