Specimen Transport within the Hospital Site

Specimen delivery by foot.

  • Specimens packed as above in plastic bags will be placed in ward specimen refrigerators sited at various points in the hospital.
  • There will be regular collection from these refrigerators throughout the day by the portering service who will place the specimens in a special specimen box (secondary container) for delivery to the main Pathology Reception area.
  • Specimens not in plastic bags will not be collected.
  • Specimen collection times will be noted on each refrigerator.
  • Outside routine collection times, specimens may be delivered to Pathology Reception by hand provided the carrier is requested to deliver the specimen directly and not deviate his journey for other reasons.
