Used in the investigation of endocrine disorders, particularly androgen deficiency/excess.

SHBG levels increase when oral contraceptives and antiepilectic drugs are taken. Levels are raised in pregnancy due to increased estrogen production.

Interference may be seen in high titres to antibodies to analyte specific antibodies, streptavidin or ruthenium. Please contact the laboratory for further information.

Males:

 20-49 years old: 18.3-54.1 nmol/L

>49 years old: 20.6-76.7 nmol/L

Females:

20-49 years old - 32.4-128.0 nmol/L

>49 years old - 27.1-128.0 nmol/L

Reference ranges for patients <20 years old are not currently available, please contact the laboratory for further information.
