The determination of progesterone is utilised in fertility diagnosis for the detection of ovulation and assessment of the luteal phase. Progesterone is also used in conjunction with hCG in the assessment of ectopic pregnancy. Optimum progesterone measurement for the investigation of fertility is 7 days before a period.
No known common methodological interferences. The drug phenylbutazone taken at therapeutic dosage levels shows interference with the assay (progesterone values depressed).
